Scottish Independence Party (SIP)

Website: http://www.scottishindependenceparty.org

Note: Given that the SIP's website has not been updated for months we suspect that they have collapsed and  will not be active in the 2007 election.

SIP is a new party which has arisen since the last Scottish Parliament elections. SIP have a similar political philosophy to the referendum campaign Independence First in that they are attempting maximum unity for independence. SIP believe that individual candidates should have 'personal manifestos' which reflect their personal beliefs rather than join together within a common manifesto. However while IF encourages membership from across every political party and none, SIP would wish candidates and supporters to leave their existing parties and join their party.

Up to this point SIP has had no electoral success  however they have taken a positive approach towards Independence First and other cross party campaigns.

SIP are running a number of campaigns currently:

Independence for the Court of Session (SIP have organised a petition for this which has been unfairly disallowed by the Scottish Parliament)

Consular Representation (SIP have been writing to foreign ministries to encourage setting up in Scotland)

SIP's overall policy objectives can be found here.
