Both of these books are excellent illuminating guides to Scottish history and also to the basic arguments for Scottish independence. Handful of Rogues: Thomas Muir's Enemies of the People by Hector MacMillan Hector MacMillan's revealing investigation into the life and times of Thomas Muir, the radical republican reformer who put the wind up the British state by arguing for equal rights, Scottish independence and co-operation with other radicals in Ireland and France.
