The Celtic League (An Comann
Eadar-Ceilteach) is an internationalist group, which campaigns for the cultures,
languages, and self-determination of Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Brittany, the
Isle of Man and Cornwall. It was founded in 1961 in Rhos, near Wrexham (north
east Wales). The national Eisteddfod was being held there at the time. For
several years previously, many Scots had been attending Plaid Cymru’s
inter-Celtic summer schools, and the idea had been floated in various magazines.
Its first president and vice-president were Gwynfor Evans of Plaid, and Robert
MacIntyre of the SNP, both of whom led their parties for many years. It is not
to be confused with the Celtic Congress, which is a non-political organisation,
but which shares many members with the League. It is also known as “The League
of Celtic Nations” in Scotland to avoid confusion with Celtic F.C. and the
Celtic League rugby tournament. It has members all over the world in fifty
countries.
Scottish Republican Socialist Movement (SRSM)

Officially a platform within the SSP, not a political
party in their own right, the SRSM allows membership from other parties
including the SNP. The SNP have proscribed their members from joining however. The SRSM are republican socialists
who admire John MacLean and are
led by Donald Anderson. They run a number of marches and commemorations and are
largely active in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. They existed as a separate
political party (the SRSP) prior to the setting up of the SSP. Some of their
members have been active in the referendum campaign, Independence First. They
publish a number of newsletters including the 'Scottish Workers Republic',
'Scottish Rebel' and
'Red Duster'. They have also published a number of historical and educational
pamphlets, mostly written by Anderson.
Siol nan Gaidheal (SnG)

Siol nan Gaidheal (Scots Gaelic for Seed of the Gaels),
were formed as a Scottish nationalist organisation with a focus mainly on
Scottish history, heritage and culture. Formed in 1978 as a faction within the
Scottish National Party (SNP), they were made a proscribed organisation by the
SNP leadership in the early 1980's along with the socialist '79 Group. A
successor organisation of the same name continues to exist and like SRSM they
tend to be involved in a lot of marches and commemorations. SnG have a fairly
young membership and their distinctive Black and white T-shirts are a familiar
sight at the SNP's Bannockburn rally. SnG have branches in Scotland, the USA and
Canada.
