Other Unionist Parties
British National Party (BNP)
The British National Party is an extreme right wing
neo-fascist unionist party which has had some minor success at local election
level in certain areas in England. It is very strongly anti-immigration and
anti-EU. It is also hostile towards the Scottish Parliament.
UK Independence Party (UKIP)
Another party on the political right which is very
anti-European. UKIP have had some success at European level in England and have
a number of Euro-MP's. Former chat show host Robert Kilroy Silk (after an
unsuccessful leadership challenge) left UKIP to form his own party Veritas. UKIP
is also hostile to the Scottish Parliament and believes it should be abolished
with its duties retaken by Westminster. This 'solution' has also been advocated
by former Conservative Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Forsyth (now Lord
Forsyth).
Scottish Unionist Party (SUP)
Tiny grouping which is sympathetic to unionists in
Northern Ireland and is defined by an antagonistic attitude towards the SNP.
"The SUP believes that there should be no compromise or appeasement with
Nationalists of any description." The SUP also "opposes religious
apartheid in our schools."
